Children from each year group are the nominated representatives on the School Council. Each year the children who wish to be a School Councillor put themselves forward and explain to their year group why they want to – the children then vote for who they wish to represent them .
All of the children take the role of Councillor very seriously – and all have a voice – recently we had the Foundation representative wanting to stand for Chair!
We try to meet at least 5 or 6 times a term. A School Governor facilitates the meetings and staff are always welcome to observe. Topics discussed can be very varied – it may be something the HeadTeacher has raised, a fundraising idea or issues and ideas brought to the meeting by the representatives following discussion in class.
Things School Council have been involved in:
- New school Mission Statement
- Road Safety Awareness
- Samaritans Purse – Christmas boxes
- New toilets in each class
- Mirrors in the cloakrooms
- Change of how we serve meals at dinner time
- Complaints and compliments school policy
- Suggestion/ideas box
- Outdoor play equipment
- Wet play toys and games
- The Visit of the Bishop and Arch-Deacon
The meetings are always interesting and show well the school motto of “Together We Achieve”
